Jessalyn Brooks turns the female body into a language of curves, rhythm and pattern. Based in Los Angeles, she works primarily in oil, drawing and fresco, creating bold, graphic compositions that move between figuration and abstraction.

Her paintings distil the body into silhouettes, contours and repeated motifs, allowing recognisable imagery to gradually shift into something more ambiguous. Lines and shapes move across the surface with a strong sense of rhythm bringing her visual vocabulary into direct dialogue with the spectator.

Brooks came to painting after years spent working across performance, dance and other creative fields. This background is what brings this sense of movement and physicality to her imagery, while her process remains intuitive and open-ended. She allows each painting to develop through experimentation rather than working towards a predetermined result.

Alongside painting and mural work, Brooks has explored textile and fashion design, translating her imagery into wearable and functional pieces. Across these different mediums, she creates work that is immediate, sensual and graphic, inviting the body to be seen not simply as a subject, but as a source of movement, rhythm and possibility.
