“My work is rooted in the post-consumer packaging [...] It is not only a continuation of the life of materials, but a rebellion against speed, disposability and the erasure of the craft.”
Meritxell Claverol is a visual artist from Pallars Jussà, Catalonia, currently based in Los Angeles. Her practice explores transformation, impermanence and the cyclical nature of materials through an experimental approach to paper.
Claverol is interested in processes that allow forms to develop through change rather than strict control. Water, pressure, drying and time can alter the surface and structure of her works, producing cracks, textures and irregularities that become part of the final piece. Organic processes, including mould, can also play a role, introducing an element of unpredictability into her practice.
Her approach combines a sensitivity to the long history of paper with a contemporary interest in pushing familiar materials beyond their expected uses. The resulting works occupy a space between sculpture and image, balancing structure and fragility while making the processes of transformation visible.
