Here, you enter Carmen’s world. Someone who truly knows and whose incredible eye means beauty always surrounds her in the most natural way. An indepth knowledge and dedicated study of her referential points, as well as artistic techniques translates into moving and luminous works, which dialogue with each other and are a true reflection of the artist - a connoisseur of life, art and all its true beauty.
Carmen often works in series, diptychs, triptychs or even simply stated “parejas” or partners. This can be in a form as close as two works literally attached to one another to form one or simply a repetition of a format, form and colour.
In Pathos, instrucciones de uso, the Greek expression is not intended to to predict the emotional effect directed at the viewer, but rather to describe the process inherent to the artistic creation. From this perspective, the phrase, attributed to Paul Klee, “Art does not reproduce the visible; it makes visible” takes on a new meaning: the work does not guide the viewer towards a predetermined emotion, but towards the traces of the process itself. Each gesture, each action and each decision are themselves witnesses of a work in which pathos is not a result, but a condition of artistic practice. The work does not seek to make the viewer feel a sense of comfort and apeasement, but rather to embody the heavy cost of the labour of which it is composed.
The studio of Carmencha Mosquera is an extension of her being. She lives and breathes what she does as an artist - a true conveyer of beauty and all things aesthetic. It is not a role she takes on, but an expression of her
essence, inextricable from who she is in her daily life. Artists like Carmen are drawing on life to speak their language - committing to paper and canvas the distilled mood of all they cultivate and experience. The atelier is abundant with collected bits of personal inspiration - precious scraps of frayed textiles, found objects that have a certain form, a certain process in their construction, books that establish deep philosophical currents, papers of all qualities with tested strokes of favorite colours, collections of adored potter’s pieces to drink and eat from… and books and books of her practice, showing how all these elements inform her work. Infinite pages of sketches and trials, showing her deep commitment to her expression, her exploration.
