Lisa Dengler is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture and photography. Originally trained in architecture in Toronto, she developed a visual language shaped by an understanding of space, which she later expanded to the body and form through her work across fashion, graphic design and photography.

The female body and ideas of femininity are recurring subjects in her work. Drawing on her own experiences, she translates curves, gestures and sensations into simplified, abstracted forms. Her creations often balance solidity with a sense of softness and sensuality, creating a dialogue between the physical body and the materials used to represent it.

Meditation is also an important part of Dengler’s creative process. While a work may begin with an initial concept, making becomes a more physical and instinctive experience in which the hands gradually take over. This relationship between thought and action allows the final piece to evolve beyond its original idea.

Dengler has lived and worked in Munich, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles and Mexico City, where she is currently based. Her residencies include Tuo Tuo in Finland and Casa Balandra in Mallorca.
